Optimal Configuration of Gas Solid Separation Equipment Using Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming

The separation of solid particles from gas-solid process streams is an important unit operation in many chemical processes. Out the different types equipment that are used for separation, cyclone separators widely their operational flexibility, efficiency and capital cost. This study focused on design optimal configuration several cyclones a fertilizer plant. granulation step plant leads to using size number series or parallel mix both arrangements. A Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) model formulated find best arrangement with dimensions combinations 1D3D 2D2D arranged parallel-series high volume heavy loading particles. objective function was minimize total cost, including operating cost results indicated maximum 90% achieved be reduction pollution level.
